"Winning is not everything--but making the effort to win is."
Vince Lombardi was a football coach, and he said those words. So it is for us distance runners.
There is a common bond that ties us all together--from those who compete at the scholastic, collegiate or professional levels, to those of us who run to stay in shape, to battle a disease, or to overcome our inner demons. It's a simple bond, and it goes a little something like this: we all wake up, we all toss a pair of shorts on and we all have to tie our shoes the same way. That's the essence of distance running--no matter how talented you are, we all must do the same things.
At its core, the New York Distance Project is about winning. We exist to push you towards your ultimate victory--whether that is Olympic gold, a national championship, a local 5k or the will to slog forward and beat back the doubts inside your mind.
From us, you will find coaching, advice, cheering, criticism, analysis, predictions and a life-narrative. These words are backed by experience, dedication and the willingness to have an open mind and try new things.
We have no particular style that we mandate each of our runners adhere to, because we recognize that each runner is different. As a coach, you have to coach each runner individually or you'll fail both them and yourself. That's what we do here.
Above all, we look forward to a future where American distance running--led by our outstanding New York runners--is the class of the world again. Together, we can make Olympic gold happen. Together, we can get through our "miles of trials, trials of miles." The New York Distance Project will be here for you--runners of all shapes, sizes and passions--every step of the way.
Run smart, and run free!
